This product specifically recognizes human CD40, a type I transmembrane glycoprotein receptor and member of the TNF-receptor superfamily, primarily expressed by B cells and professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs), which plays a vital role in T cell-B cell interactions and in germinal center B cell selection.
CD40 is a co-stimulatory molecule which mediates its immunoregulatory effects through interaction with its ligand CD154 (CD40L, gp39), playing a role in B cell proliferation and memory development, Ig class switching, activation of APCs and subsequent cytokine production, and the expansion of antigen-specific CD4+ T cells.
