This product recognizes the core antigen of Salmonella enterica, serogroups A, B, C1, C2, D, E1 and E2. The core antigen bears the O antigen and is attached to lipid A. These three components together form the lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a major component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. The LPS is an endotoxin and induces a strong immune response from the host. Its mutation or removal results in the death of the bacterial cell and as such is a prime target for antimicrobial drugs.
Salmonella enterica, causes typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever and foodborne illnesses.
This product cross-reacts with serogroup A (S. paratyphi A), serogroup B (S. typhimurium), serogroup C1 (S. choleraesuis.), serogroup C2, (S. newport), serogroup D (S. enteriditis), serogroup E1 (S. anatum) and serogroup E2 (S. selandia).
