HSP60 is encodes a member of the chaperonin family. The encoded mitochondrial protein may function as a signaling molecule in the innate immune system. The balance of HSP60 is crucial to the pathogenesis of cancer. Increased protein levels of HSP60 have been observed in solid tumor specimens such as breast cancer and colon cancer. Furthermore, elevated HSP60 expression is closely associated with poor prognosis in some malignant tumors.
