Secondary antibodies are used to detect and quantify specific target antigens/molecules and are a vital component in biomarker discovery. These antibodies bind to primary antibodies, which, in turn, bind to the target antigen. The primary antibody binds to the target antigen, while the secondary antibody, which has been pre-labeled / conjugated, recognizes and binds to the primary antibody. This helps to amplify the signal, making it easier to detect the target antigen.
