Neurotensin is a 13 amino acid neuropeptide that is widely distributed throughoutthe nervous system, and may function as a neurotransmitter or a neuromodulator. Itacts on three subtypes of neurotensin receptors which have many central andperipheral actions.

Neurotensin induces a variety of effects, including: analgesia, hypothermia andincreased locomotor activity. It may be involved in dopamine-associatedpathophysiological events.

In the periphery, Neurotensin is found in enteroendocrine cells of the smallintestine. It may be involved in the maintenance of gut structure and function, and inthe regulation of fat metabolism. It is a potent mitogen for colorectal cancer.Neurotensin also exhibits antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi.

Standard, Biotinylated Neurotensin peptide, and Positive Control should be stored at -20°C after arrival. Avoid multiple freeze-thaws. The remaining kit components may be stored at 4°C. Opened Microplate Wells and antibody (Item N) may be stored for up to 1 month at 2° to 8°C. Return unused wells to the pouch containing desiccant pack and reseal along entire edge.
