Introduction

While Monkeypox viruses (MPXV) are usually zoonotic diseases (generally transmitted from animal to human), this MPXV outbreak is seeing higher levels of presumptive human to human spread for reasons that are currently not well understood. This new MPXV isolate is nearly identical to a recent outbreak in the UK, differing by less than 100 bases out of over 197,000 nucleotides. RayBiotech developed this Monkeypox Virus PCR Kit as a ready to use PCR assay for the detection of MPXV DNA to help the research community better test, evaluate, and understand this current viral strain. It does this by using primer sets specific for the J2R gene unique to the current strain of circulating MPXV (GenBank: ON563414.3) and can be measured with most common qPCR setups.

Storage/Stability

The MPXV PCR kit is shipped on dry ice and can be stored at -20°C for a period of 12 months prior to opening. After opening, the reagents are valid for at least 6 months if stored at -20°C.
