Description
Galectin-3 is a member of the lectin family, of which 14 mammalian galectins have been identified. Galectin-3 is approximately 30 kDa and, like all galectins, contains a carbohydrate-recognition binding domain (CRD) of about 130 amino acids that enable the specific binding of beta-galactosides. Galectin-3 is encoded by a single gene, LGALS3, located on chromosome 14, locus q21q22. This protein is characterized by an N-terminal proline-rich tandem repeat domain and a single C-terminal carbohydrate recognition domain. Galectin-3/LGALS3 can self-associate through the N-terminal domain allowing it to bind to multivalent saccharide ligands.
Specificity
The antibody can specifically bind to human Galectin-3. The specificity for binding to recombinant protein, cellular protein and native antigen is not defined. Cross reactivity with mouse or rat Galectin-3 was not tested.
Storage
Store at 4°C if intended for use within one month, otherwise, store at -20°C to -80°C. The lyophilized antibody is stable for at least 18 months after the date of receipt when stored at -20°C to -80°C. After reconstitution, it can be aliquoted and stored frozen at -20°C to -80°C in a manual defrost freezer for at least 6 months without detectable loss of activity. Upon reconstitution, the antibody can also be stored for 1 month at 4°C. Please avoid freeze-thaw cycles, as this will lower the activity of the antibody.
