Description
Omentin, also known as intelectin 1, is a calcium-dependent lectin with affinity for furanosides, such as galactofuranosyl in bacterial arabinogalactans. 30kD of apparent molecular weight of Omentin migrate at 40-kD under reducing conditions due to glycosylation. Omentin, a novel visceral fat depot-specific secretory protein, enhance insulin-stimulated glucose transport in subcutaneous as well as omental adipocytes and may therefore be implicated in the pathogenesis of obesity. Omentin is a visceral fat depot-specific secretory protein. Omentin mRNA is expressed predominantly in visceral adipose tissue and is barely detectable in subcutaneous fat depots in humans and rhesus monkeys. Omentin mRNA is expressed in stromal vascular cells, but not fat cells. Omentin does not affect basal but enhanced insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in human adipocytes.
Specificity
This antibody binds to its immunogen, and did not show any cross reactivity with unrelated antigens in ELISA. Cross reactivity with mouse and rat Omentin has not yet been tested.
Storage
Store at 4°C if intended for use within one month, otherwise, store at -20°C to -80°C. The lyophilized antibody is stable for at least 18 months after the date of receipt when stored at -20°C to -80°C. After reconstitution, it can be aliquoted and stored frozen at -20°C to -80°C in a manual defrost freezer for at least 6 months without detectable loss of activity. Upon reconstitution, the antibody can also be stored for 1 month at 4°C. Please avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles, as this will lower the activity of the antibody.
