Introduction
D-Lactic acid is an isomer of L-lactic acid generated by lactate dehydrogenase under hypoxic or anaerobic conditions and is normally present in mammalian blood. Elevated D-lactic acid can result from excessive gastrointestinal microbial production; subclinical elevation is an indicator of sepsis and trauma, and accumulation can lead to D-lactic acidosis with neurological and encephalopathy symptoms.
Assay Principle
D-lactate is specifically oxidized by D-lactate dehydrogenase to generate a colored product read at 450 nm. Absorbance is proportional to D-Lactate levels in the sample. Samples must be deproteinized (perchloric acid / potassium hydroxide) prior to assay.

Storage/Stability
Store the entire kit below -20°C for up to 6 months from the date of shipment. After preparation, store individual reagents as described in the kit manual and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
