Alcohols can be found in various products including antiseptics, solvents, combustion fuels, and preservatives. However, the most commonly used alcohol (ethanol) has been consumed in beverages for thousands of years. Potential long-term effects of ethanol consumption include liver disease, cardiac conditions, pancreatitis, diabetes, and cancers.
Ethanol Assay Kit provides a simple, reproducible, and sensitive tool of measuring Ethanol concentration in plasma, serum, saliva, and other biological liquid samples. This assay employs a coupled enzymatic reaction system that combines multiple steps. Initially, the ethanol converter enzyme oxidizes ethanol, producing acetaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide. Peroxidase then catalyzes the reaction of hydrogen peroxide with the Colorimetric Probe to form a pink colored product. The optical density measured at 570nm is directly proportional to the concentration of ethanol present in the sample.
