GlycoRNAs are small non-coding RNAs with sialylated glycans and were recently discovered in 2021 by a Nobel laureate Chemical Biologist Dr. Carolyn Bertozzi. GlycoRNAs include small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs), ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs), transfer RNAs (tRNAs), and Y-RNAs.
RNA modifications (e.g., glycosylation, pseudouridylation, methylation, and adenylation) play pivotal roles in diverse cellular processes, such as tRNA-mediated translation, RNA epigenetics, chromatin structure modulation, and RNA maturation. Found primarily on the cell surface, glycoRNAs can participate in the immune system and cell-to-cell communication. In addition, glycoRNAs enhance the recruitment of neutrophils to inflammatory sites through their interaction with P-selectin on endothelial cells, and their expression and function are dependent on SIDT family genes. Despite recent progress in the field, our understanding of glycoRNAs is still lacking compared to that of proteins, lipids, and glycans.
The RayBio® GlycoRNA Dot Blot Assay Kit is a reliable, simple, and rapid method of quantifying the total glycoRNA level in RNA samples collected from humans, rats, mice and other species.
