Bovine serum albumin (BSA) is a large, stable, and highly immunogenic protein with multiple reactive sites per molecule, making it ideal for conjugation with peptides and other antigens via amine- or carboxyl-reactive crosslinkers. As such, BSA is widely used as a carrier protein to enhance the immunogenicity of haptens and weak antigens for applications such as antibody production, ELISAs, immunoblots, and immunohistochemistry.
The RayBio® Hapten-BSA Conjugation Kit provides an optimized method for generating hapten-carrier conjugates for immunization and antibody production. This kit employs a carboxyl-reactive carbodiimide crosslinker, which forms stable bonds between exposed carboxyl and amino groups on peptides and proteins. BSA is pre-formulated in buffers compatible with carbodiimide chemistry and the use of spin desalting columns ensures exceptional protein recovery through a simple centrifugation step.
