Introduction
Monoamine Oxidases (MAOs) are a family of flavin adenine dinucleotide oxidoreductase enzymes found in the outer mitochondrial membrane that catalyze the oxidative deamination of biogenic and xenobiotic amines. The two mammalian isoforms, MAO-A and MAO-B, differ in localization, inhibitor profile, and substrate specificity, and help regulate neurotransmitters such as dopamine, noradrenaline, and serotonin. MAO dysfunction has been associated with depression, drug abuse, migraines, schizophrenia, ADD, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease.
Assay Principle
The kit measures total monoamine oxidase activity, as well as MAO-A and MAO-B isoenzyme activities separately using the specific inhibitors clorgyline and pargyline. Monoamine oxidase reacts with its substrate to generate hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which reacts with the Colorimetric Probe to produce a pink product read at 570 nm. Absorbance is proportional to amine oxidase levels in the sample.

Storage/Stability
Store the entire kit below -20°C for up to 6 months from the date of shipment. After preparation, store individual reagents as described in the kit manual and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
