Diphtheria toxin is an exotoxin produced by Corynebacterium diphtheriae. It inhibits protein synthesis by disrupting the peptide chain release factor (EF-2) of host cells, ultimately leading to cell death. Due to its specific killing mechanism, it is widely used in tumor treatment and immunological research.
