HER2/neu (also known as ErbB-2, ERBB2) stands for "Human Epidermal growth factor Receptor 2" and is a protein giving higher aggressiveness in breast cancers. It is a member of the ErbB protein family, more commonly known as the epidermal growth factor receptor family. HER2/neu has also been designated as CD340 and p185. The receptor tyrosine kinase ErbB2 plays a crucial role in tumorigenesis. Investigations shown that loss of Hsp90 binding correlates with enhanced ErbB2 kinase activity and its transactivating potential, concomitant with constitutively increased phosphorylation of Tyr877, located in the activation loop of the kinase domain. Furthermore, Tyr877 phosphorylation is mediated by Src and that it is necessary for the enhanced kinase activity of ErbB2.

The antibody is stable for at least 1 year from the date of receipt when stored at -20°C to -70°C. Reconstituted antibody can also be aliquotted and stored at 4°C for 1 month or at -20°C to -70°C in a manual defrost freezer for many months without detectable loss activity. The antibody specifically detects phosphorylated protein derived from pancreatic carcinoma cell line lysate at various concentrations. In both ELISA and Western Blot, this antibody shows no crossreactivity with other unrelated protein. ErbB2-specific antibodies with no cross-reaction to ErbB3 or ErbB4.
