Introduction
Glyceraldehyde-3-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is a glycolytic enzyme central to energy production that also functions in apoptosis, transcriptional activation, and homeostasis, and acts as a sensor of oxidative stress. GAPDH is frequently overexpressed in cancers and under-abundant in neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, making it an informative indicator of cellular health, cancer, and neurodegeneration.
Assay Principle
Based on a coupled enzyme reaction, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate is catalyzed by GAPDH to a colored product quantified at 450 nm. The change in absorbance is directly proportional to GAPDH activity in the sample.
